As some of you might have surmised by this week's theme, Cover-By-Cover is shutting down for a while.
This isn't due to a lack of interest on my part, or having run out of theme ideas to use, but certainly realities in my life outside the Internet have caused me to re-evaluate some things and the time I had to spend on this project is no longer viable.
I originally did this, because of the dour and negative feelings I saw at so many other blogs across the comic blogoverse. I felt that the doom-and-gloom vibe was out of balance with the more positive aspects which one should find. So, in an effort to even the scales, if just a bit, I decided to do this blog as a tribute to not only the rich history of comics, but to bring a little more light and fun to the comic blogoverse table. I can't say for sure how successful I was, but I hope those of you who came by over the past several months got a little joy from stopping in.
One thing I have to say, is that this was a lot more challenging than I thought it would be. Not just coming up with a weekly theme, but finding enough covers to make it worthwhile. For those who've done similar things at their blogs from time to time, I have a new found respect for what it takes to do this.
Despite the image on this entry, it's not truly "the end of the road" for Cover-By-Cover. I hope to return to this, when some of the issues in my personal life have been readjusted to the point that doing this won't feeling like work and feel more like the fun which was the inspiration for it.
Thanks for all your support with this, folks. I hope that it gave you all a little bit of a reminder how much fun comics are supposed to be. I, also, hope that you got a nice feeling of nostalgia, when you would see a cover of an old issue you fondly remember, or maybe that you were inspired to check out the old back issues at your local comic shop, after you saw a cover here that struck your interest. And I hope it's allowed you to gain a bit of perspective on why we shouldn't take this stuff nearly as serious as some of those out there in blogoverse-land tend to do.
I thank all of you who took the time from your own day, to come here and be a part of mine. It really helped make all this worthwhile for me. Hope to see you again, really soon.
Sincerely,
James Meeley
